In the late 1950s, BMW introduced the 507, an elegant two-seater convertible powered by a 3.2-litre V8 engine. Decades later, the Z8 was conceived as a modern tribute to this iconic roadster, Under the bonnet, the Z8 is powered by a 4.9-litre, 400 bhp V8 engine derived from the legendary E39 M5. Positioned behind the front axle for optimum 50/50 weight distribution, this engine delivers effortless torque and a characteristic burble that embodies the muscle car charm of the original 507. Built on an advanced aluminium space-frame with aluminium body panels, the Z8 boasts cutting-edge technology for its time, including xenon headlights, a sophisticated five-link rear suspension, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and ASC+T traction control. Safety features included front and side airbags, while the driving experience was enhanced by a six-speed manual gearbox and dual VANOS variable valve timing.
